When it was announced that moody 19th century horror-shooter Hunt: Showdown was being sour into a TV series, my mind stirred with questions, my substance fluttered with hope (though that could just glucinium the poisonous substance bees trying to burst out of my ribcage). How would they bring this game's mysterious mythos to life?

Hunt: Showdown's vision of the Louisiana hinterlands circa 1890, ravaged by a mysterious hassle that mutates people into all kinds of horrors, is one of the most atmospheric settings in videogames. It's a hopeless place where bounty hunters in search of lucrative supernatural spoils descend happening a zone filled with zombies, body of water beasts and distended butchers wearing raven heads.

Altogether lore in the game is gleaned from lusus naturae descriptions and diary entries, and even many another of those pretty often say 'we Don River't know what the hell went mistaken hither.' There's a shell out left-wing to the imagination, which could live wonderful in the right filmmaking hands, or fateful in the wrong ones.

But after a chat with the point's Enforcement Producer Pascal Tonecker, I hold any assurances that the creators are on the right track, at least in terms of the kind of horror the show will look for harness. "We want to create something that evokes atmosphere," Tonecker tells me. "No leap-scare horror scenarios, IT will be around the atmosphere that Hunt is already delivering in the game—rattling dense, very frightening."

The theatre director chosen for the project can't be revealed yet, but Tonecker says "atomic number 2 has a identical obedient reputation for creating some features and TV serial publication in the horror music genre." For reference, the creators are looking at shows like The Alienist and Dime novel, both of which are period dramas with a psychological noir flavour hanging o'er all those good costumes. He also points to the crackling soundscapes and unseen horrors of the Blair Witch Project As an inspiration.

The Louisiana swamps, farmsteads and uninhabited mining towns of Hunt: Showdown are crucial to its uncomparable atmosphere. Tonecker tells Maine that the show testament "shoot on location as very much like come-at-able, and assay to avoid studio apartment shooting because we conceive that this show testament live from real-life props."

On the far side that, like the lore of Hunt itself, the prove is swirling in mystery, and wish stay on so until future year. While I'm hoping for body-repulsion-inducement monsters and slow, longanimous pacing (The Thing meets Deadwood—is that too much to ask?), I won't begrudge them departure kayoed the cravenly shotgun campers comparable me.
